A different kind of event for St. Patrick's Day
“Through the Lens: Evoking ‘Thin Places’”
by Larry Rankin
“Through the Lens: Evoking ‘Thin Places’” is the title of a discussion and projection of photographic images to be presented by local photographer, Larry Rankin, at the Brath Hughes Fire Art LLC, 41 West Main Street, Mechanicsburg, 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Friday, March 16th.
Celtic mythology and contemporary Celtic and Christian spirituality embrace the metaphor of “Thin Places” and “thin place” experiences where the veil between this world and the world of the Spirit “thins” or becomes transparent, and one encounters the presence of the Sacred.
Larry has presented this program in area Churches, and the images and ideas formed the basis of an exhibit and discussion at the Chautauqua Institution in New York sponsored by the Department of Religion in 2009. Accompanied by projected images from Ireland , England , and a variety of nature and landscape subjects, Larry will share thoughts of the importance of light in photography, light as a powerful metaphor for the Sacred, and how through photography we can experience the Holy.
Larry is a retired physician from Carlisle and a nature, landscape, and fine art photographer who participates regularly in local juried group exhibits and has had solo exhibits at several locations in central Pennsylvania , Philadelphia , New York , and Vermont . His work can be found at Brath Hughes Fine Art, the Carlisle Arts Learning Center, and the Perry Council of the Arts in Newport.
Please call 717-691-1333 for reservations. Seating is limited. Light refreshments will be served. Fee $10 per person. Includes slide show, lecture and a social hour to follow with refreshments.
